I love the square screen rather than a widescreen. Worked perfect right out of the box. My only disapointment was that there were no speakers built-in. I don’t think the description gave that information. Since I had some extra speakers it was no problem. That would have given it a 5 star rating.

I was intitially disappointed with this montitor. Out of the box it set up easily but the screen appeared washed out and not very crisp. I am comparing it to a 5 year old Sony of the same type that was 1024×768 resolution. My reason for replaceing the Sony is that it had no way to hook a monitor arm on the back, thus the upgrade to this model that does. The Sony was very crisp and sharp with a good contrast ratio. This monitor at the 1024×768 resolution was horribly, faded and blurry even after all my attempts to adjust it and downloading the latest software. Thus, I did have to set it to the higher 1280×1024 to get crispness, but now I have to adjust all of the font sizes and DPI settings in Windows so I can see it, since at the higer resolution, the fonts are smaller. Perhaps it is this way with all of the monitors of this size but I still love my old Sony. I am sure for most people, this will be a great choice, but I do not use it for games or videos, it is for internet, email and work related things such as Word and Excel. I tried a widescreen prior to this and did not like the non-square format. The controls on the front take a few minutes to get used to, but once you do, they are not that bad.

My 12 year old 15″ flat screen Sony CRT monitor was due for replacement, still working good but heating up the computer room. This 19″ ViewSonic is bigger, so easier on the eyes, but it doesn’t add so much heat or take up any more desk space than the old monitor. So far so good, I really like it. To me, the screen was so bright, I had to tone it down quite a bit. The controls are flexible enough so you can adjust it to please just about anyone. The 1280×1024 native resolution was just right.
