In this brave, beautiful, and deeply personal memoir, Laura Bush, one of our most beloved and private first ladies, tells her own extraordinary story. Born in the boom-and-bust oil town of Midland, Texas, Laura Welch grew up as an only child in a family that lost three babies to miscarriage or infant death. She vividly evokes Midland’s brash, rugged culture, her close relationship with her father, and the bonds of early friendships that sustain her to this day. For the first time, in heart-wrenching detail, she writes about the devastating high school car accident that left her friend Mike Douglas dead and about her decades of unspoken grief. When Laura Welch first left West Texas in 1964, she never imag… More >>

Just another Republican propaganda book. Not only is the book exhaustingly repetitive and far too lengthy, it sounds like it’s written by an uneducated housewife, not the First Lady.

According to his wife, he didn’t go to LA after the disaster because the “presidential” convoy would have interfered with the delivery of food and supplies. The problem was, there WAS no delivery of food and supplies.
My information came from a review I heard of this book. I wouldn’t read a book with a title like this even if it were NOT written by the person wrote it.

Why can’t the Bushes go away. She is either so stupid that she stands up for that idiot or she wants to be free from GUILT. And those little trollops. Getting drunk all the time, probably having with sex with who knows and sticking out there dirty little tongues. They all make me sick to my stomach!!! I read the first page and that was all I could handle. Then I hear that one of the daughters is on “Good Morning America” and the only is pictured with Afro-American children. That is a hoot! She probably had herself on a green screen. In conclusion, I really didn’t like her book and I am so happy the the Bushes are not teaching my Grandchildren.

I am inclined to say something good about the book because i do believe MRS BUSH is a good person and a classy former first lady.(Classy as she is reserved) However, i am conflicted as to the vast Inadequacies of Intelligence and Sophisication in the book.I guess, “if” i were a republican, and a Texan, i would absolutely love & enjoy the book.Oh well, nevertheless she is Charming.

First Let Me start off by saying that I have always Liked Laura Bush, seems Like a Nice Lady, Dignified, Harmless, sort of a Betty Crocker/June Cleaver 1950′s type housewife. Saying that, you would think that with 8 years of being the First Lady of The united states behind her that she would have something to say in a book….THINK AGAIN! There is nothing in this book that reveals anything new or refreshing about her life or the white house years. She glosses over political events which is probably a good thing considering that Laura Bush has just of Average Intelligence and could never grasp the Complexities of World Affairs or the Economy(let’s face it, Laura Bush is no Hillary Clinton)! There were a couple times when I was reading the book that I burst out laughing. one was when she talk about how she killed that poor guy in a car accident, actually blaming the accident because the “stop sign was too small”, LOL! The other time was when she talks about how other politicians were calling Poor george bush names(its politics sweety, mud will be flung). her excuse as to why Bush dragged his feet with katrina and took weeks to actually go down there because he didnt “want to get in the way” was just lame.
When Laura shopped around this book, she talked to several big wigs in the publishing world, after the talks, two of the major publishers turned her agent down flat with one stating that “she has nothing to say”. She ended up with only a $1.6 million advance, one of the lowest advances ever paid to a first lady(Hillary holds the first ladies record with an $8 million advance). The publishers who turned her down were wise! this book will sell for a couple of weeks but only to the die hards who like Sarah Palin and listen to every word that Glenn Beck says and then it will quickly fall off the charts. Hillary Clintons book sold over 2 million copies, lets see how laura bush stacks up!
