I “upgraded” from the Advanced Pump Instyle (API) and was very sorry. Despite getting the motor replaced by the company, it has nowhere near the suction that the API has. Furthermore, the strap that’s supposed to attach to the bra only works with Medela bras and one other kind. I can’t attach it to the majority of the nursing bras I have.

I had been using the Medela Pump in Style Advance for 3 months before purchasing this. I pump exclusively, so that means I use a pump 6-8 times a day for at least 15 minutes each time! That’s a lot of time spent pumping! So when I heard of a pump that didn’t require you to be plugged in to an outlet, I was thrilled. Yes its very expensive. At first, using it was great! Then, I washed the parts and dried it (as the instructions say) and lost suction. One of the membranes “failed” (I don’t know why!) and I completely lost suction on it (I tested it several times over) so I called the company and they sent me a new Spare Parts kit. That sort of solved the problem, but not really. Ever since using the Free style, I noticed a difference in amounts between my right and left breast. There always has been a slight difference, but it is more noticeable in the Freestyle than the PISA. Sometimes I notice that my left is producing significantly more than my right and I know that the pump parts on the right side isn’t suctioning quite right. The timer feature is great, but their “Memory” function is retarded. You have to push it each time to recall the memory for both the expression and stimulation phase (meaning, you have to press it 2x). What’s the point of a memory feature if you need to press it more than once to recall your pump cycle? One button should remember how you did the entire pump session. Or maybe I’m doing it wrong, I don’t know, I don’t bother with it anymore. Yes its lightweight and portable (the Pump In Style won’t fit in my work locker) but it has its downsides too.
As for the hands free attachments, I received one in which the clasp was inserted backwards, making it impossible to use. I contacted Medela (again) and they sent me a new pair. The attachments, in my opinion, are not as sturdy as a hands free bra…they take a long time to attach and still feel like they might come off. A bra however, I know that the flanges are nice and tight on my breasts and I am not worried about them falling down when I’m roaming around hands free, whereas the Freestyle attachments make me worried it will fall off.
I’ll continue to use the Freestyle for its pros–portability, easy to attach tubing, timer feature.

After doing much research into breast pumps I purchased the Freestyle. I rented the Medela Lactina Select with the last two kids and this time decided I wanted to purchase a pump because I planend on pumping exclusively. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this pump and highly recommend it to anyone.
PROS:
Strong suction with many different levels to choose from. Dont let the size fool you.
Lightweight and portable. I throw this pump in my diaper bag, it is that small. Easy to take with you. It comes with a great carrying bag but so far I havent used it because I have an awesome diaper bag that fits everything and the kitchen sink in it (Skip Hop – Duo Double Deluxe).
No need to plug anything in! Rechargable batteries that hold their charge for over 3 hours. The battery is quick to charge back up too. You can use the plug in option but I never do. It is so nice to be able to pump in the car, at the computer, folding clothes, or reading. I just take it wherever I need to be and clip it on my belt and pump away. I highly recommend the Pump Ease hands free bra though. I couldnt figure out the hands free clips that came with the pump and they didnt feel very sturdy anyway. I dont want to risk losing any breastmilk. I bought the pump ease hands free bra on ebay for 18.00 and it works like a charm.
CONS:
It has a fairly obnoxious noise to it when pumping. It is fairly loud and you certainly can be heard from the next room. Sounds like a groaning/mooing sick cow. Which makes me laugh every time I hear it because I feel like a cow being milked when I hook up but that is neither here nor there
I am just sayin’. You won’t be using this at the movie theater or church.
NO other issues.
LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this pump. It is worth every penny and I would buy it again with no hesitation.

I have no problems with the hands-free pump and love it. I hook it onto any nursing bra I have and away I go. The only thing I needed to do was buy smaller breast shields. The pump is very light and portable.
