I’m a HUGE and I mean HUGE Fan of the Final Fantasy Series! As much as I looked forward to this movie, I could almost say I hated it. I wish Square gave it a good story. The movie had no originality and was plain and long……..It didn’t have the feeling that all the other Final Fantasy games had…………

Based on the insanely popular videogame series of the same name, The Spirits Within is the first time a Final Fantasy story has been set on Earth. On a distant planet in a far away galaxy allows the reader to accept some of the more outlandish ideas that Final Fantasy stories embrace, but when the near future of Earth is concerned there needs to be an effort made to make the fantasy at least have a basis in reality. This book does not do that. Though it was a good read and will make for a good movie, as a novel it falls flat when you take a moment and think about just what you are reading. From the way Aki deals with the infection of Gray to the nonsense ending it’s hard to take the story seriously at time. At one point near the end Dr. Sid exclaims how logical and simple it all is. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

Well, I am FF fan since FF7 and I played almost all FF games…I waited for this movie thinking it will be really good thing in style of FF….NOTHING LIKE THIS…….at movies’ end almost EVERYONE ON PLANET dies….except Aki (main character) and old Dr. Cid….and it has no this “magic” sence like in the games….I don’t think book is much better than movie…

I am a big fan of the FF video games, but let me say, this is just the biggest piece of … I’ve ever seen! Take my word on it. (I can’t give away the plot but let’s just say it’s just a fancy Budhist…film!) No wonder it was #9 the first week it opened. The only reason to go see this movie would be to see the computer graphics, but even those were extremely thin at points. In short, don’t read this book, don’t see the film-they’re both garbage. A true disgrace to the Final Fantasy universe.

I loved the book the only reason it got 4 stars is the one thing I can’t stand about the Japanese Animations. I may spoil it for some who don’t understand this… Typical Japanese Animations I’ve seen all have 2 people in love, in the end one of them dies. Maybe i’m a hopeless romance, but just once i would like the man and woman in love both to live! And for this reason alone i avoid Japanese Animation. Someone should take notice shake it up a little and have a happy ending with both characters alive! In a japanese animantion!
