This book was so horribly written, that it was nearly impossible to read. Was it edited? If so, the editors should be fired.
When was this book written? It is a complete ‘Twilight’ ripoff.
SHAME ON YOU.

It’s unusual for me not to finish a book, but it does and did happen. I just didn’t care what happened to these people. I like paranormal stories, but this was just boring. It had great potential, but didn’t really go anywhere. I would recommend “Twilight” and “Ghost”

While I found the storyline and characters interesting this was a poorly written book which gave me nightmares. The bad editing (“warn lounge”)while annoying I can put up with (just). I’m no expert but the authors technical syle had me quivering in horror. It’s going to be sometime before I can forget some of her more memorable and overused expressions. For now I’ll just “roll my eyes” and “furl my brow” and wonder how anyone could rate this book more than 1 star. Poorly done indeed.

I am an avid Twilight fan, so as I was searching for a new series to begin, Amazon reccommended this book. I read the great reviews then downloaded it to my Kindle and hopped on a plane to CA excited to read it.
Firstly, I must say, if you have not read Twilight (and you have been living under a rock) run to your nearest bookstore NOW and devour it over the next 10 hours of your life, varaciously! If you HAVE read Twilight and you are looking for a new series, this AINT it, honey. Go back and re-read the series, you will be much more satisfied and much less insulted than if you were to read “Feather”.
POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT: but not too much.
Upon reading “The Raven” at the beginning, I was very excited to find a novel based on an Edgar Allan Poe peice; I am a big fan. Then, reading the Preface, I thought the concept of the mythology was brilliant and had a lot of potential to be a great story.
By the time I got to the end of the second chapter I was astounded that this could actually be in print. It seemed like such a total plagaristic rip off of Twilight!
The author, although she is from Seattle, takes a very similar setting for her story as in Twilight–Oregon, actually. She then continues to shamelessly use the names, events, characters, feelings almost verbatum, and in order, no less!!
Brief Synopsis:
There is a sweet, lovely girl named Bella, oops! I mean ESTELLA, who has always felt out of place, different and never had any friends. She moves from the only home she has ever known to a beautiful lush forest to go to school where she immediately meets an over-friendly boy, Mike..oops, I mean SCOTT, who has a crush on her. She goes to her first day of classes only to lay eyes on a gorgeous, perfect-bodied, dark professor named Edward, oops again, I mean EDGAR. She has a sudden fear-induced panic attack full of (somewhat empty) passion and emotion mixed with confusion and a near-fainting experience, not knowing why.
The next day she goes to a floral-filled MEADOW (seriously??) and has a near-death experience from which she is surprisingly saved by, guess who? The 18-year old professor who mysteriously never ages, Edgar. (Truck scene, anyone?) Priceless! She then gets involved with Edgar and he warns her that she cannot touch him, because, oh yeah, he has an insatiable desire to KILL HER! Even though he is completely obsessed with her at the same time, but doesnt think he can control himself or stay away from her!(Again…seriously??) There are alot of references to his “sweet breath” washing across her face, and his fingers trailing across her cheek. (Hello?) She even names the bad guy James…oops! i mean Matthew (one of those other Bible names…werent they brothers?), who is out to kill only Estella. PLEASE!!!
The story gets a little bit (and I mean slightly) more unique from there, but the nuances are all the same, without any of the emotion, draw, and believability that Twilight magically has. The character development is poor, I had no emotional attachment to Edgar whatsoever, he was just a pretty face, and I really could not even picture him well from her lack of description. ALSO, the way she writes Elle as this perfectly gorgeous being that just continues to get more beautiful every day but despises her perfection is just nauseating. The relationship that forms betwen the two main characters is so quick and trite and ridiculous. The dialogue is so fifth grade, nothing interesting in the least. VERY VERY predictable.
I felt so completely betrayed and insulted by reading this book!! I gave it the generous rating of two stars ONLY because of the Edgar Allan Poe reference/theme and mythology background; author really could have expounded on both of these much more indepth for a more unique story. It really could have been cool and a great read, but the story was very weak and it was just too much of a rip-off for me to get past!
GO READ TWILIGHT!!!!!

I really liked how real the author made the relationship between the two main characters. The Story was funny, yet endearing, but also packed with action, and nothing was sugar coated, and I like that.
The magical element was seemless and well backed, nothing seemed too far fetched, and as the mysteries unraveled I had a lot of fun figuring it out along with the characters. She didn’t give anything away too soon, and the twists were unexpectedly perfect, and eye opening. the story unraveled seemlessly, keeping my attention intrigued. I must admit, the ending was intriguing, and gutsy. I won’t give it away, but to say the least, that sort of ending doesn’t come along very often, but I think she pulled it off.
I’m used to the classic Fantasy writers voice, where they use long complicated words and go s`ym~bol crazy, but she didn’t. It was a relief that I didn’t have to deal with made up languages, and strange unbelievable worlds. Basically, the main character is like you and me, possibly a little depressed, and looking for her meaning in life. who CAN’T relate to THAT?
The Soul-Mate element was strong, and heart wrenchingly truthful. The plot is based on a notion, that is tangible in the real world, and I liked the mystery of it, and forbidden feelings.
Book two has a lot of promise, and I look forward to revisiting some of the characters that were perhaps brought into the story, but not really embellished upon, like the tough and funny Guardian Angel, Sam…
Don’t discredit this authors energy, it’s definitely there on every page.
